Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all of you!

So I have not been very active for you on providing new things on here, but I did manage to fix some longstanding issues, that hopefully make playing more easy.

I firmly believe that 2024 will be a great year, for us all and for the Land of Karchan as well.

Release notes - version 2.0.12
Published Date 2023-10-05T12:02:46

It's been a while since I've put up a new version. Let me know of any breakage.

I'll but some Release Notes here when I have a moment.... which is now.

replaced big talk editor
I replaced the CKEditor 5 I use for Big Talk with @kolkov/angular-editor. The main reason being that CKEditor is a javascript editor that requires some changes to make it fit for Angular, while the new one is created for Angular specifically and the integration is soo much better.
fixed up chatlog

There've been issues for a long time with chatmessages, so it needed a more thorough change. I refactored it to its own component and moved most of the functionality related to it into its own service, which checks if websockets is on or off.

I make no guarantees that things work dandy now, but at least it makes it easier for me to make changes.

chatline ownership

Chatlines now have an owner. There're two new commands 'editchat' and 'deletechat'. Also, the existing chatlines are owned by nobody. Ask a dep to fix this.

Type "help chatlines" to find out how it all works.

user interface

You might have noticed some small changes to the user interface, let's break it down!

  • chatlog area is now bordered above and below
  • clear and reset are now "part" of the chatlog "area" and no longer clutter up all the buttons below your input field
  • autocorrect and autocapitalize are turned off in the command input field.
  • in your settings you find a new item called 'Debug logging'. Don't bother with it.

Unless you are a developer and can open up the javascript console of your browser to see logmessages. If you are interested, you can change this value to the one you like, "DEBUG" for all logging, "SEVERE" only for the serious bits that break.

Release Notes

  • Fixed #226. Admins can now add several attributes in one script.
  • Fixed #221. Admins can now create several items in one script.
  • Fixed #229. Changing your own passwords in settings doesn't work. It does now.
  • Fixed #217. Checking the who in-game cleared your chatlog. Fixed.
  • Fixed #214. Chatlines now have ownership. Added two commands editchatline and deletechatline.
  • Fixed #60. Admins can now turn on (playing) or turn off (not playing) bots and shopkeepers.
  • Fixed #212. Issues with chatlog fixed. Hopefully.
  • turned off autocapitalize and autocorrect on the command input field. It was a personal source of irritation for me that on my phone my commands were capitalized, and then the server says "I don't understand that.".
  • replaced CKEditor 5 with @kolkov/angular-editor
  • did something interesting with debug logging (for developers)
  • updated karchanpersonal to the new angular 16.2.8
  • updated karchanadmin to the new angular 16.2.8

High regards,

Isle of Coldridge 2023 - Phantasmagoria
Published Date 2023-09-15T19:03:29

Greetings everyone, and Happy Spooky Season!

It is that time of the year where the annual ISLE OF COLDRIDGE event kicks off, usually starting in October until it's completion!

This is our third year holding this event, which changes in theme every year while centering around a mysterious island.

This year, the theme is THE ISLE OF COLDRIDGE 2023 - PHANTASMAGORIA!

All manner of ghosts and ghouls may be in your way should you choose to attend a very specific event.

Interested in joining this year's fun? The sign up sheet will be posted on the "coldridge-event" channel on Karchan's Discord server, so have a look at that, read the info, and if you want to be involved on the definite, sign your character's name at the bottom so I can gauge interest. I'll only hold the event if we have at least (4) participants other than myself and Zaria.

As usual, our wonderful Dice Maiden, Zaria, will be acting as DM for the rolling we'll be doing. Be sure to thank her for all of her help. These events would have never been possible without her.

If you're curious what past events looked like, they are on the wiki, and the link to that is here. The rolls and ooc things have been removed so it's just the plot for length purposes.

If you have any questions, simply pose them on the discord. Once you've signed up, I will assign you the role necessary to participate in the coldridge-event channel.

Good luck and have fun! I'm excited to see you there.

Things to Do While You're Lurking
Published Date 2023-06-16T14:39:01

So we all have moments where we'd like to log into Karchan, but no one is around. The best way to lure people on is to log in, but what if you don't want to lurk or need something to do? This list will outline different things you can do in game that may not be obvious, from meeting certain goals to acquiring fun skills, this is a list that can give you something to do while you're waiting for the rest of us to login and play! Presence on the who list helps. :)

First up on the list is:

There is a list (here) that shows a list of the 100 richest characters in Karchan. Given the right tasks, one could easily amass a fortune and find themselves on this list!
This list used to build more status, but with gold becoming useful again, now is the perfect time to strike out on your own and obtain riches!

Second, we have:

Jobs involved interacting with bots for coins you can sell at Moneychanging spaces like the ones in Pendulis and Khneo.
Some are hilarious, while others are more straightforward.
The command job information shows what bots have jobs and what that particular job entails. Some pay more than others. You can even keep the coins for other purposes in game like...

There are mines for gems all over Kuri, and some gems are worth more than others, and ALWAYS worth more cut.
You can easily cut the gems at Roades & Morrow Gems in Howlswealde by having the gem in your inventory and a large, mythril coin worth 500g, which you can get from the aforementioned jobs!
The command gem information shows a list of what areas have gems, how much they are worth, and what the gems are.
Even if you just want to collect them or hoard them, it still gives you something to do instead of just sitting around.
Getting some gems are more involved, so be sure you have all the right tools.

These are mentioned in my last blog post, but they give more to do than expected.
Not only do you have to hit up various libraries all over, but you also have to obtain a grimoire in the first place. Rumor has it, that you can get a grimoire for free by taking one from a deity's library...
Once you have the grimoire, you collect, potions recipes, spells, and compendiums, the latter of which tells you where certain spell reagents can be located and searched. It also means that you can use these things to brew up real magic in game.

Check out guilds (here) and see if any of them interest you.
Clicking on the icon beside the name should open up the guild information and if the guildmaster has filled out the description for their guild, you can find out what each guild is about as well as the guildmaster if you want to join.

With the creation of the glass ring (courtesy of Ephinie and myself), getting around is much easier. In addition to the ring taking you almost anywhere, there is now an atlas that has tons of macros and maps for getting around. Just type study atlas to get one in your inventory where you can read it. Most maps have a mobile version too, that isn't so big.

Character sheets have information about your character, some that people can assume or some that you want to be found out in RP. Some are elaborate, while others are simple.
Character sheets can be made and filled out by logging in and clicking 'Settings', then where it says 'Storyline', you can plug in your story!
Images and HTML are allowed, so feel free to go all out!
You can see other character sheets here.

Use of the vicnews command shows my current projects as well as places to own/available job positions in my areas. It also has a list of commands I've programmed that may not be common knowledge. Looking it over doesn't hurt anything. It may be a little outdated at times, but I try to update it as things get claimed. :)
Similarly, there is also the in search of command, used for long-term needs that are removed too fast from the RP board.

Some of us have more projects than others, and would love some help. I've been known to pay 1000g per room description or let people save the money up for the gem equivalent.
It's also a good way to get a property in an area before anyone else, as people who help me often get first dibs.

So there is a list of things you can do while waiting for someone to log in! As usual, if anyone has any questions about anything, simply poke me on Discord!

Libraries and Grimoires
Published Date 2023-04-11T19:02:05

I thought I would take a moment to explain what I've been up to recently as far as programming content for Karchan. I'm really proud of what I've done so far, and I hope some of you will get excited. It's mostly for potion masters or witchy sorts, so if you have a character that dabbles in that, this might be exciting for you!

First up is the Grimoire, an item where you can collect various magical books, tomes, and compendiums by visiting the libraries in Karchan. When you collect spells, you can use them at a later date for things you need. A grimoire can either be purchased at a book shop like The Book Nook in Khneo, or you can nab one from the library in Castle Alauda in Elusen.

You can collect potion recipes in the libraries in Karchan, and if you have all of the spell reagents in your inventory, you can brew different potions that do different things. So far, I have five potion recipes available to be found:

  1. A Cloaking Potion
  2. A Death Draught
  3. A Love Potion
  4. Cure for Lycanthropy
  5. Cure for Vampirism
All do specific things, and there are plans for more potion recipes in the future. Speaking of spell reagents...

The Compendiums can also be found in libraries, and they contain (5) spell reagents per compendium. They list what they are, and where you can find them, as well as the hoops you'll have to jump through in order to get some of the more complicated reagents. So far, there are six compendiums to be found.

Aside from potion making things, you can also use the grimoires to collect psychic books, and if you collect them all, you can become psychic and be able to use the items specifically made for clairvoyant types in Karchan. There's also spells that take you special places like allowing you to go to Esmeraulde or The Pumpkin Patch (the latter any time of the year) or spells that give you permanent access to special commands.

Existing potion makers will be given a grimoire without any hassle if they speak to me.

And finally...

By going into any large library now, you can receive a library card for no cost to you. It allows you to randomly teleport to a library at any given time. It's useful for collecting things in the grimoire, or just something fun for your nerdy/book loving characters.

If you have any questions, just ask!

Thank you to Greta and Ike for all of your help testing these commands for me!
