Commands


Here's a list of some useful commands for anyone that needs them to get started in the game! The language that commands use are specific and usually case-sensitive. An example of the most useful and common command formats are below.
Having Trouble? Type "help" in your in-game chat bar, along with the command you are looking to use, for example:

help mail

The solution will be given to you on a pop-up screen. You can return to your standard roleplay screen by hitting the submit button. For a full list of commands available in the game, see the Index of In-Game Commands.

Commands fall into one of six categories: communication, actions, emotes, emotes with adverbs, guild, and items.

Communication

  • say will let you speak aloud to no one in particular.
    • say It's hot today returns:
      • Karn says, "It's hot today."
  • say to name, in this case Victoria, will direct what you say to that particular person.
    • say to Victoria It's hot today returns:
      • Karn says to Victoria, "It's hot today."
  • whisper will let you whisper to no one in particular.
    • whisper This room is a mess returns:
      • Karn whispers, "This room is a mess."
  • whisper to name, directs your whisper to that particular person. Everyone else in the room knows that you are whispering, but not what was said.
    • whisper to Victoria This room is a mess" returns two read outs:
      • "Karn whispers something to Victoria, but you don't know what," for everyone who wasn't the target of the whisper.
      • "Karn whispers to you, "This room is a mess"," for the target of the whisper.
  • tell to name sends a private chat message to that particular person. Only the two of you will hear it or know it happened.
    • tell to Victoria This mustard is spicy, returns:
      • You tell Victoria, "This mustard is spicy."
  • ooc on and ooc off toggles the OOC chat channel in game.
    • ooc on returns:
      • Your OOC channel is now turned on.
    • ooc off returns:
      • Your OOC channel is now turned off.
  • ooc message is how you chat using the OOC channel.
    • ooc Hi everyone! returns:
      • [OOC: Karn] Hi Everyone!

Actions and Emotes

There are many action commands in the game but some of the most important or popular are listed here. You can find an ever-expanding list of actions and emotes on the Index of In-Game Commands.

  • me is the ultimate action command! Type this before something your character does and it will be replaced with your name in your post.
    • me lords it over you all 'cause he's frickin' awesome, returns:
      • Karn lords it over you all 'cause he's frickin' awesome.
  • twist to city name is a teleport command attached to an item. Every new character receives a Glass Ring when they enter the Land of Karchan, and the ring is meant to help new characters get around the map (see below heading Items on how to equip the ring).
    • twist to pendulis can return four readouts:
      • You seem to fade away, as would a shadow when cast into the sun.
      • In the blink of an eye, you arrive at your destination.
      • Karn seem to fade away, as would a shadow when cast into the sun.
  • newbie road is a teleport command that will allow you to return to the road where new characters emerge from the cave without the need for special items or status.
    • newbie road returns:
      • Here you are, sweetcheeks.
  • You are able to join other players in Karchan for roleplay (or ask them to join you) without having to manually cross the map.
    • join name will ask someone if you can join their RP, and teleport you to their location if they say yes.
      • join Karn returns:
        • You have asked Karn to join their RP.
    • invite name to roleplay will invite someone to join your roleplay and teleport them to your location.
      • invite Karn to roleplay returns:
        • You have invited Karn to join your roleplay.
  • Emotes are short commands that allow you to interact without using the me command. You can use emotes on their own, or direct them to someone.
    • nod returns:
      • Karn nods.
    • nod to name, in this case Victoria (nod to Victoria), returns:
      • Karn nods to Victoria.
  • Emotes can also be used with adverbs. There is a list of confirmed working adverbs in the Index of Commands.
    • laugh nervously returns:
      • Karn laughs nervously.
    • laugh nervously to name, in this case Victoria (laugh nervously to Victoria), returns:
      • Karn laughs nervously to Victoria.

Guilds

There are several universal Guild commands, though each guild does get their own, unique commands. Some of the more important universal guild commands are:

  • guildapply name submits a request to the named guild's leader for you to become a member. It is recommended that you talk to the guild master before requesting membership.
    • guildapply healer returns:
      • You have applied to become a member of The Healer's Guild.
  • guild message, which allows you to chat to all of your online guild members at once. Many people consider this to be telepathy in-character.
    • guild Hey everyone! returns:
      • [guild]Karn: Hey everyone!
  • guilddetails shows you the current log-on message, list of members, and ranks of a guild that you are a member of.
  • guildinfo brings up the list of commands unique to your guild.

Your character may belong to one guild at a time.

Items

Items in rooms appear under the list of room occupants. They are highlighted in blue and underlined like standard links. Most items can be picked up. All items can be looked at. Shops have special commands in order to see what items they carry.

  • inventory or i shows you your character's inventory at the top of the screen. You return to your normal screen by hitting the submit button.
  • look at works for items in your inventory, items in rooms, and people. You can also click highlighted items (and people) to look at them.
    • look at item works for food, clothing, jewelry, potions, tools, weapons...just about anything!
      • look at ring will not only pop up the item picture and description at the top of your screen, but also return the readout:
        • You look at a faceted, reflective, glass ring.
        • To return to the standard view just hit the submit button.
  • get number item lets you pick up items. If there is just one item, you may omit the number variable.
    • get 4 turtle cheesecake would return four instances of:
      • Karn gets a turtle, pumpkin, cheesecake slice.
  • give number item to name lets you give items in your inventory to other players.
    • give cheesecake slice to Victoria returns:
      • Karn gives a turtle, pumpkin, cheesecake slice to Victoria.
  • wear item on location is how you equip items in your inventory onto your character. When people look at you, they will see you wearing the item.
    • wear ring on rightfinger returns:
      • You wear a faceted, reflective, glass ring on your right finger.
      • Where items can be equipped will appear in the item's description.
  • read item works on many items in the game, though not every item. Items in room descriptions can also be read, such as plaques, lists and notes.
    • read ring will pop up an alternate description of the faceted glass ring (different from look at ring), that lists all of the locations you can twist to.
