Mythopolis
The Isle of Mythopolis is a protectorate of the nation of Saparta. It is located on the side of the dangerous Adaran Bay opposite of the capital port city of Saparta, from which the nation takes its name.
Since travel through the Adaran Bay is so dangerous, ships often stop at Mythopolis for trade and re-supply rather than risk the journey across the bay. For those who must get to the capital city, Mythopolis offers the services of a state of the art observatory atop the palace. From this vantage, ice bergs and other hazards can be assessed before a vessel makes the final leg of the trip. There is, of course, a small fee for the use of the observatory.
The island is ruled by the Politarch (the Sapartans' term for a provincial governor), Mythokos. He personally benefits from the trade and observatory usage of passing ships while the poor citizens of the island subsist by farming their crop share, fishing, and seal hunting. The observatory's profits are heavily taxed by the Capital.
The market and the observatory are the only notable attractions of this place. The palace on the hill where the observatory is housed would make a grand tourist attraction if the Politarch allowed visitors to browse its many rooms - but he does not.
Those who find themselves stuck on the island overnight have poor choices of lodging. They can attempt to obtain a room at the small inn located at the northern cove of the island, but its resources are rather limited. Or they can try to gain the meager hospitality of a local. Failing that, such unfortunates are in for a night under the cold, desolate stars.
Mythopolis is most easily reached by sea, through deep ocean tidal currents or by ship.
The Sea Louse travels daily between Mythopolis and the harbor of the Land of Karchan.
It is rumored that The Scylla Tide also travels to Mythopolis on a whim, but such reports are unconfirmed at this time.
Go Back.
