Neith

Origins

Neith herself, ironic as it is with her area of speciality, can not actually explain her origins. There are no memories of a life she might have had before she became what she is known as today, no recollection of any form of childhood to know if she was born into the power. No guidance or whispers to let her know if the powers were inherited or passed on.

This is a puzzle that plagued Neith for many many years when she first became aware of her existence but after lifetimes of no answer, she gave up searching though the question always lies in the back of her mind, as if there is part of her missing. An unsolvable mystery.

The First Few Years

For this goddess, controlling the vast amount of power and coming to terms with it was not an easy automatic job. There were muck ups, mistakes, many of them. Years of baby booms and spikes in population that had gone out of control. Then years of hardly any successful births. Years of all families having joy and close bonds then the polar opposite and spikes of rifts within blood lines like no other. It was like riding a bike, falling off either side and struggling to maintain a balance.

With no handbook, guidebook, rule book or mentor, she didn't know where she was meant to stand. Was she good? Evil? Who was she meant to be? If there was one before her, what did they do?

Years went by, lessons learnt by the mistakes and she learnt who she was meant to be, should be.

Neith Now

Her title and role often make people assume she is good. On the face of it, it seems like a positive role but it is like a coin, two sides. She is neutral. She keeps balance. The goddess has learnt for there to be good, there must be bad. For there to be success, there must be failure. Life is not fair as cruel as that is. This is why not every childbirth, pregnancy, attempt of conception is successful. Pregnancies aren't always planned. This is why the good don't always have a happy family background, the bad sometimes are stronger in their ties. Variety, unpredictability, a risk. That's what make mortals, humans, elves, creatures of the non divine different. Everything is a gamble and an uncertainty and Neith in her field in the keeper of that.

On a more personal level, she is not without fault. There is a certain envy of humans, almost wishing to be one and not have the responsibility of what she is on her shoulders. She is flawed and easily lead, sometimes helping people with what they ask for for the right price, entertainment or just because she is in a good mood. Sometimes, rarely there is the opposite where she deliberately blocks someone's request because of petty dislike. She often has her small mischievous plans on those she is fond of.

Circling back to her envy on being human, over her lifetime she has been married three times, children by the first two fathers. She has deliberately limited/capped the powers of (most of) her children so they are comparable to normal beings in an attempt to give them a life as close to a mortal's as can be. Though she leaves immortality stand for even she could not see her own blood age and perish.
