Land of Karchan

New Pendulis

As Karchan's oldest city, this aging locale has both seen and been through a lot. In olden days it reportedly had slums, and through its southern gate one may access the fabled southlands, but this gate has not been open in known history. It is located in the middle of The Southern Range, at the southeastern border of Karchan.

Much of Pendulis's purpose and history must be explained nostalgically by oldies:

In olden days, one of Pendulis's most important shops was the Money Changers. They even had bank vaults in which you could store your money. You see children, it used to be that the old folk did not have inexplicably infinite carrying capacities, and thus got tired from schlepping around large quantities of stuff. The money changers made it so that you could keep your wealth without keeling over from exhaustion. However, like many things, the bank vaults were destroyed by the fiery breaths of the ravenous dragons.

Many things went the way of the dragons. They used to run around, flying all willy-nilly, swooping down and eating people, then pooping them out deep in the mountains. The Dew Drop Inn, still bearing the markings of the catastrophic event, was not spared such a fate. It is believed to have been destroyed by a dragon, but the specifics have been lost in the addled minds of the old folk. The Dew Drop Inn, in fact, was destroyed during an invasion by Obsidian's forces.

Not all was destroyed by dragons. Some things merely faded out of fashion. The Tailors was where one could go to get fancy things that were not sold by Karcas, as it was the only other clothing shop in Karchan (unless you were dirt poor and could only afford sandals, cloth pants and a leather jerkin and those you would buy at the leather shop). Dresses came in black, royal-blue, and forest-green, along with the occasional red, as did cloaks. Two forms of work shirts were sold, slippers, along with a few other things. There weren't many options but it was all about what you did with it.

One could say that in days of old, Pendulis was the cosmopolitan, albeit not rp, center of Karchan. Where else could you get different types of breads and small round food cheeses? Food and drink was very important back in days or yore, when you had to eat or else face pains of the dreaded hunger. This too faded out of fashion, as characters lost the need for sustenance.

Pendulis was also the sight of many a war, the likes of which are sited by old rpers as the reason for the death of the area's slums. In recent years, the city's borders have opened up, allowing access to the Dark Forest, the Calenwood and Dunholm beyond it.

Contemporary History

West Order Invasion Around 2005, a group called the West Order took over Pendulis, closing both the North and East Gates of Penudlis. At the same, and to this day, the South Gates of Pendulis leading to the Southlands remain shut. Pendulis remained closed off to the entire populace, cutting off most of the population from Calenwood Forest. Several people, including numerous nomads from Sham El Naseeen Kabile. The gates were eventually reopened after months.

RP Opportunities in Pendulis

Though not currently the most active of cities, there are still some tools available that one can use for RP:

  • The Pendulis Flats - areas of the city available for residents to have their homes.
  • The University of Pendulis - an educational institution that is available for people to roleplay being students or (with special permissions) professors.
  • The Pendulis Watch - Similar to the Ammerville Guard, only cooler. Roscoe is currently the Captain of the Pendulis Watch. He should be contacted in order to join, though leaving a public message to notify his RP'er that he has mail will gain the quickest results.
  • The New Pendulis East Trading Company - This is open to all shopkeepers and traders. It is meant to be a loosely organized trading guild that assists in matching up store owners with suppliers. For more information, contact Rodolphus, Bartleby Bumble, or Philemon Fisher.
