The Dreaded Isle of Vurr

Contents

Origins

At the far reaches of the ocean, where the waters are the blackest and most tumultuous, the Dreaded Isle of Vurr stands erected on a lone island swarming with evildoers from all walks of life. It was founded hundreds of years ago by the original King, a man dedicated to the Thauranko and all those under their banner. It was built up so that those in the pursuit of dark knowledge, magic, and paths had a place to go and be amongst other like-minded individuals without threat of arrest or judgement.

Government

The Dreaded Isle of Vurr is ruled by a King or Queen, and it is common knowledge that in order to become King or Queen, you have to kill the current ruler.
The Current Queen of Vurr is Illanaera, a demon with a wicked reputation and devotee of the Maleficus.
There is no police force on Vurr, as it is full of evildoers from every dark religion, but the Ruler does employ the use of her royal guard if needed. Those who cross the crown are often hung or sent to the torture chamber.

Vile Undertakings

The island is full of bad habits and evil undertakings, including slavery and duels to the death in the arena. Sometimes people are kidnapped and brought to Vurr to act as servants or unpaid workers, and sometimes the conditions they live in are less than ideal. Sometimes they serve as lovers.

Dark magic of different variations is taught here, whether through the official classroom channels, or by apprenticeship. Necromancy is a popular magic, as is ritualistic magic and the summoning of creatures best left in the shadows.

Lots of disputes are settled in the arena, where random bad things happen each round, typically to the detriment of those participating.

Sights to See

The arena hosts intense fights that are renowned for how bloody they get.
The brothel, Lupanari de Damnatis, is a popular destination for many that traverse the island.
The Library of Vurr is expansive and full of magic. The librarian holds many secrets, possibly a creature of eldritch origin.
The Cellist in Castle Vurr, though unnerving, plays their instrument beautifully. They never tire and play 24/7.
Oddities & Ends close to the dock has an array of cursed objects one can purchase for their most beloved enemy.
Marcas Tenebrous boasts tattoos of the magical variety, giving those who receive certain tattoos, certain abilities. One of those tattoos allows people to come and go as they please from Vurr.
