Tiros

Origins

Once upon a time, Tiros was considered the Gem of the Desert, a place dedicated to higher learning when it came to magical know-how. People sought out ancient magics here, learning from some of the best magic practitioners around. Tirosites were on good terms with Haavians, and all was good in the world.
At one point, the serpent people of Tiros were attacked and forced to flee their country. The ones who stayed behind were the strongest. The village grew into a small country, and the capital was renamed Arkphath. The people grew to have a hatred of shifters, especially cats, due to the prior attack on their village by felines, and their hatred deepened with time.
The most recent Queen wished to restore Tiros' reputation, making her unpopular. The people didn't care about their reputation. They were devolving into a violent group of religious extremists under the banner of Sarva, Ancestral Spirit of Shade.
When a royal guard had an affair with the Queen, his jealousy at finding another man in her bed caused him to murder her. He was hailed a hero for his efforts, allowing the extremists to take power after he fled.
The country fell to ruin after this, full of violent people who take out their frustrations on the shifters they kidnap to abuse.

Government

Tiros is currently ran by three council members and a chieftain. The council makes the decisions, but the chieftain sees that those decisions are enforced.
There is no police force, just chaos. Their government is a separate entity from other places, and outsiders are usually met with suspicion.

Sights to See

Truth be told, there's not much to see in Tiros, and it can be a hostile environment even for curious tourists. Things the Tirosites enjoy are very much frowned upon in other places in Karchan.
There is the arena, where Tirosites force kidnapped shifters to fight to the death. Bets are taken. A lot of shifters die here.
Castle Tiros is still beautiful, but heavily guarded. It's still nice to get a brief tour though.
There's a beautiful oasis where locals like to go swimming after they've slathered on magic to deflect the sun's rays.
Tiros is home to a lapis lazuli mine for those willing to travel that far.
